Narek Sargsyan, nephew of third President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, will remain in custody since the court has upheld the motion filed by an investigator of the National Security Service, Narek Sargsyan’s attorney Artur Pivazyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Pivazyan added that there have been several confrontations within the scope of the criminal case and that Narek Sargsyan refuses to testify.

Touching upon Narek Sargsyan’s health problems, Pivazyan said Izmirlian Medical Center can’t solve his health problems since it mainly deals with treatment of injuries.

On July 26, 2018, the National Security Service instituted a criminal case under the elements of illegally acquiring, selling, keeping, transferring or bearing weapons, ammunition, explosives or explosive devices, realizing illicit circulation of narcotic drugs, psychotropic (psychoactive) substances and their precursors or preparing them or selling them illegally.

A search was declared against Narek Sargsyan on July 6, and international search was declared on July 24.

On December 6, 2018, various units of the Police of Armenia, as well as the National Central Bureau of Interpol in Armenia, in cooperation with the law-enforcement authorities and Interpol in various European countries and through extensive operational intelligence measures, found, in Prague, Narek Sargsyan, who was being internationally searched by the law-enforcement authorities of Armenia.
