YEREVAN. – At Thursday's Cabinet meeting, the government approved the package of bills that will allow continuing the fight against COVID-19 and protecting the lives and health of citizens without extending the current state of emergency in Armenia.

Minister of justice Rustam Badasyan presented this package. He noted that they propose to make respective amendments to the laws on ensuring the sanitary and epidemiological safety of the population and on the protection of the population in emergencies.

As per the minister, if this package of laws is adopted, the current state of emergency in Armenia will not be extended on September 11, but restrictions with new changes will apply instead.

"According to the drafts, quarantine can be established in case of infectious diseases’ importation, penetration into Armenia, the risk of their emerging and spread, outbreaks, emerging of an epidemic, as well as emerging of emergencies as their result," Badasyan said, noting that the respective restrictions to be imposed in these cases were in line with the constitution of Armenia.

He added that norms have been established that will allow considering in a short period of time the appeal of the legality of the measures that are being used in case of declaring quarantine in Armenia.

And once the state of emergency is lifted, the system of locating people with electronic tools and banning certain economic activities will no longer work in the country.
