The 57-year-old man, who is arrested on charges of brutally beating his grandchildren in Khashtarak village of Armenia’s Tavush Province, used arsenic. This information was confirmed to Armenian News-NEWS.am by Dr. Mikayel Gabrielyan.

He added that the man was taken to hospital. "The patient's life is at risk right now, too, he is conscious, he answers our questions," the physician said.

Armenian News-NEWS.am had spoken with this man's lawyer Artur Melikbekyan, who had noted that his client has mental retardation issues. He had added that a motion shall be submitted to the court to have this man transferred to a mental health center.

A 6-year-old boy who was taken to hospital as a result of severe beating had died, whereas the 4-year-old was discharged from the hospital on August 27.

The Investigative Committee of Armenia had informed that the criminal case under investigation into a 57-year-old resident of Khashtarak village causing serious bodily and psychological harm to his underage grandchildren has found out that his 28-year-old daughter also had regularly beaten her five minor children, as well as her brother's two underage sons.

A new criminal case was initiated in connection with this incident, and a decision was made to merge the two criminal cases and continue the investigation under one proceeding.
