Representative of the Office for Economic Studies of the Bureau of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutyun political party, economist Suren Parsyan today posted the following on his Facebook page:

“People have serious social issues, and the figures that the Prime Minister has declared are inaccurate.

Based on the latest official statistics, in July 2020, trade dropped by 10.4% compared with July 2019, and retail trade (stores, consumer product markets, produce markets, other trade outlets) dropped by 17.6%. In the same period, the service sector declined by 21.6%.

Therefore, the only 2.5% decrease in turnover of cash register coupons for the month of August declared by the Prime Minister, is beyond the logic of economics and inaccurate. Armenia is in a financial-economic crisis. People have serious problems, and the country will record worse indicators in the months to come, if the incumbent authorities don’t revise their social-economic policy and personnel.”
