Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan today chaired a consultation devoted to the report on the activities of the Urban Development, Technical Standards and Fire Safety Inspectorate carried out in 2019 and the performance of the first eight months of the year 2020, as reported the news service of the Government.

Head of the Inspection Bodies’ Coordination Bureau Artur Asoyan stated that the Inspectorate was established through the optimization of five previously operating inspectorates and performs functions in the fields of urban development, technical standards and fire safety, transport, energy, land use and mapping. He added that legislative amendments have been made, and the scope of application of means of administrative liability of the Inspectorate and powers have been regulated.

Head of the Urban Development, Technical Standards and Fire Safety Inspectorate Gegham Shakhbazyan reported the activities carried out in the reporting period and stated that technical and fire safety inspections have been conducted in over 1,200 schools and discussions are being held to eliminate the shortcomings of automated signaling systems and firefighting equipment. Shakhbazyan also stated that, due to COVID-19, several actions laid down by the annual action plan for 2020 remained incomplete.

After listening to the reports, the Prime Minister particularly asked about the work being done after recording the violations of fire safety rules and was told about the results of studies conducted at risky facilities and the measures taken. The introduction of a system of fire safety insurance was considered.
