YEREVAN. – After Thursday morning’s statement by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia by which the army demands the resignation of PM Nikol Pashinyan and his government, a tense situation was created near the main government building, as the citizens who support Pashinyan and those who demand his resignation gathered there.

There were occasionally clashes between them, which were being settled with the intervention of the police.

After the government’s Cabinet session, Pashinyan left the main government building. By the way, after the aforesaid statement by the general staff of the army, it was the PM who had called on his supporters to gather near the main government building. Pashinyan announced that his resignation could not be a solution to the issue. "I have submitted several proposals; unfortunately they were rejected," he said.

Pashinyan expressed an opinion that the aforesaid statement by the General Staff of the Armed Forces was an emotional statement. "They have just involved our [military] command, some of our friends," he added.

Pashinyan also mentioned that at 4pm he will deliver an address at Republic Square, where some issues shall be discussed.

After that, Nikol Pashinyan marched through the streets of downtown Yerevan. He was walking surrounded by several rows of the red beret special forces of the Police.

During the march, sporadic clashes took place between the participants of the march and the citizens demanding Pashinyan's resignation.

The participants of the march returned to Republic Square, and Nikol Pashinyan entered the main government building.

As reported earlier, the General Staff of the Armed Forces recently issued a second statement reaffirming its aforesaid position, and noting that its statement issued in the morning was not directed by anyone and was not made under pressure from anyone.
