Turkey has sentenced two journalists to prison for disclosing state secrets.

Editor of OdaTV news Myuyiser Yildiz has been sentenced to prison for a term of three years and seven months, and representative of Ankara’s TELE1 Ismayil Zeki Dyukel has been sentenced to prison for a term of one year and fifteen days under the same charge.

Yildiz and Dyukel were arrested on 12 June under the charge of espionage, but later they were charged with disclosure of state secrets in relation to the press releases regarding Turkey’s military intervention into Libya.

Turkey is one of the countries with the most imprisoned journalists in the world. After the failed coup attempt in 2016, the ruling Justice and Development Party repressed dissident journalists more.
