YEREVAN. – As a result of discussions with law enforcement agencies, it was decided to dissolve the Special Investigation Service (SIS). The minister of justice, Rustam Badasyan, stated this at Thursday’s meeting of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia.

The package of the law on the establishment of the Anticorruption Committee and the attached bills were being discussed at this committee, and in the second reading.

"[Until the Anticorruption Committee is formed] the Special Investigative Service investigators will be temporarily appointed as Anticorruption Committee investigators," Badasyan added in particular.

Once the competition rules have been approved, SIS investigators shall participate in the competition on an equal footing with other individuals. And the other SIS investigators shall hold investigative positions in the other investigative services. The Anticorruption Committee is expected to be formed by early October.

The aforementioned draft was approved by the said parliamentary committee, and it will be debated on at the NA plenary session.
