YEREVAN. – Women and men in the reserve, as well as citizens—up to 63 years old—who are not registered in the reserve, can enter the military service and join the ranks of contract soldiers in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia. Edmon Marukyan, chairman of the opposition Bright Armenia Party and head of its faction in the National Assembly (NA), said this at Wednesday’s NA session during the discussion of the bill on making amendments to the Law on Military Service.

According to him, the upper age limit for conscription for contract military service is expected to be set at up to 63, and for senior officers—at up to 65 years.

However, Marukyan said that he was ready for a debate, in particular, to discuss the matter of lowering the respective age limit.
