The computer systems of the New York City transportation authority were cyber-attacked in April by hackers who may be associated with the Chinese authorities, The New York Times reported.

According to her, the attackers failed to gain access to the systems responsible for the movement of metro cars, so nothing threatened the safety of passengers. The hackers also did not gain access to the personal information of passengers. According to the estimates of the management, the hackers were able to break into three of 18 computer control systems, TASS reported.

According to the newspaper, the damage from the cyber incident was negligible.

The US Department of Homeland Security, which is investigating the incident, declined to comment on this information for publication.

This is not the first case of cyber attacks on large infrastructure facilities in the United States attributed to foreign hackers. In early May, attackers broke into the systems of the American pipeline company Colonial Pipeline. The cyberattack was carried out using a virus that gets into a computer system temporarily blocks its operation and encrypts data until the victim pays the amount demanded by the ransomware. The hack paralyzed the company's system for several days, which transports about 45% of the fuel consumed on the US East Coast. Colonial Pipeline paid hackers $ 4.4 million to regain access to their data.
