Researchers in Toronto, Canada, studied the mental health of 2,026 children, whose average age was eleven. And with the transition to remote schooling during the coronavirus pandemic, these children began spending more time in front of TV screens or computer monitors, according to JAMA Network Open.

For many, it caused depression and affected their behavior, which has not changed for the better. But the risk of these conditions has not increased in children with autism spectrum disorders, as they already sit in front of screens a lot and do not communicate much with other people.

As for absolutely healthy children, according to researchers, video calls with friends could have brought them to a normal state, but these did not live up to expectations. Along with transition to remote schooling, many children have changed their daily routine, started staying up late, playing less sports, and not attending any events. In addition, the news and advertisements also have a negative effect on the children's psyche.

Experts advise parents to limit the time their children spend in front of computer screens, as well as to communicate with them more. Live communication is the main thing that teenagers need, Canadian researchers conclude.
