The European Union should propose the integration of all six countries of the Western Balkans into the EU by 2033, said Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, calling it a bold but necessary step.

In an article published in Politico ahead of the Southeast Europe Cooperation Process summit in Greece, Mitsotakis noted that the EU must prove that when it sets out a vision, it has the intention and the ability to realize it.

The region's vision of EU accession has become blurred in the eyes of frustrated and frustrated citizens as EU enlargement has stalled in recent years due to security, governance and migration issues, he said.

The EU-Western Balkans summit is scheduled for June 23.

The Mitsotakis initiative highlighted how Greece is trying to increase its role in the Balkans.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who is starting a two-day tour of the Western Balkans on Friday, is also scheduled to visit Thessaloniki for a dinner with 13 SEECP members. They will be joined by European Council President Charles Michel.
