The European Commission will begin consultations with representatives of EU countries on the upcoming package of sanctions within a few days, POLITICO reports, citing European diplomats.

Brussels has already imposed several sanctions packages against Russia. The European Commission is currently preparing new measures and will discuss proposals with EU ambassadors as early as Friday, diplomats said.

Diplomats expect to discuss a plan to curb the price of Russian oil, which is currently being discussed in the G7. The U.S. is pressuring the EU to make progress on limiting oil prices before an EU ban on Russian oil imports takes effect in December.

Other potential measures that could be considered are additional lists of individuals, a ban on imports of Russian diamonds and other luxury goods.
