The Taliban movement, which is in power in Afghanistan, has begun recruiting Afghan women into the Interior Ministry to work in a unit to disperse protests, RIA Novosti reported.

According to the ministry, 100 women have so far been recruited and are undergoing training. According to local experts and women's rights activists in the country, the new female officers will work on women's protests.

"This is one of the Taliban's tactics to prevent protests and gatherings of women. The Taliban do this to keep the [public] response to brutality against women under control," said social activist Muhadisa Amin.
