Uzbekistan refused to resume the work of the Russian payment system Mir because of the associated risks, said chair of the Central Bank (CB) of the country Mamarizo Nurmuratov, TASS reported.

According to the specialist, local commercial banks currently see the risks in the service of Russian cards. "So far, there is no talk of resumption," Nurmuratov said on the sidelines of the II International Economic Forum in Samarkand.

Earlier in September, the U.S. Ministry of Finance threatened sanctions for supporting the use of cards of the Russian payment system outside Russia. Amid this, Turkish banks Is Bankasi and DenizBank refused to service the cards in their ATMs and outlets on September 19.

A few days later, a number of banks in Armenia, Vietnam and Kazakhstan made the same decision.
