If what was agreed upon Wednesday, if all that does not deviate from its logic, then in the near future there may bee a need for large investments within the framework of the "Armenian Crossroads" project, particularly in railway restoration. This was announced by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting of the Armenian government.

"It's great that we have that opportunity. Of course, it is a project that I am convinced international partners will show great interest in all cases. It is about the following that during the negotiations with the President of Russia yesterday, we received certain signals that there may be a significant and serious opportunity for us to return again and start the work of restoring the Horadiz-Meghri-Ordubad-Sadarak-Yeraskh railway," Pashinyan said.

Also, he noted: "Given the previous bitter experience, I want to share the information again; but to say that all this must be reconfirmed and recorded. But the good thing is that we will not have a problem of financial possibilities."

During the last Cabinet session of the Armenian government, and speaking about the restoration work of the Yeraskh-Julfa-Ordubad-Meghri-Horadiz railway whose agreement was reached on December 14, 2021 in Brussels, Pashinyan had informed that the president of Azerbaijan had violated this agreement.

"A few days later, [Azerbaijani presidency Ilham] Aliyev himself refused to sign the document confirming the agreement. I officially announce that I am ready today, too, to sign the document confirming this agreement," said the Armenian PM, emphasizing that Azerbaijan is refusing the proposal—which Armenia had worded in writing and forwarded to Azerbaijan in December 2021—for the construction of new regional communications.

In order to restore the land connection with Azerbaijan, Armenia had to build a 45-kilometer railway in the Meghri sector. And according to the Armenian government's calculations, this would cost about $200 million.
