Heavy rains hit New Zealand's northern island again, causing landslides and flooding. The death toll has risen to four after a missing person was confirmed dead, Reuters reports.

Auckland, which has been affected by the downpour since Friday, with a population of 1.6 million people, continues to be under a state of emergency. MetService warned of more severe weather Sunday and Monday on the north island.

The hotbed of the emergency moved south, and the Waitomo area, about 220 kilometers from Oakland, declared a state of emergency late Saturday night.

On Sunday, police said they were assisting with traffic control and road closures in the region after heavy rains caused numerous landslides, flooding and road damage.

Police said nearby Bay of Plenty also experienced massive flooding as well as a landslide that destroyed a house.

Authorities said Sunday that thousands of homes were without power and hundreds were without water.
