The European Union mission will have a certain deterrent effect on Azerbaijan, Russian political analyst Mikhail Aleksandrov told NEWS.am. The expert reminded that the mission will be deployed to the conventional border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and not to Lachin corridor and Nagorno Karabakh. He added that Russia doesn't see any threat.

"The threat is felt by Azerbaijan and pro-Azerbaijani circles in the Russian Foreign Ministry. Here they are dissatisfied with this mission because they understand that this mission will restrain Azerbaijan in its actions against Armenia," Aleksandrov explained. And Russia, the Russian public, as the political scientist assured, is quite calm about the EU mission and even thinks it's not bad. "The main thing is for this mission to behave properly. If there are violations on the part of Azerbaijan, the mission should document them, but not pretend that nothing is going on," the political analyst said. At the end of January, the EU approved the dispatch of a new observer mission, which will be deployed to Armenia since February 20 this year. The mission will consist of 100 experts and observers.  This is the second EU mission. The first observers were sent to Armenia after Azerbaijan's September aggression against Armenia.
