The Sea of Marmara has receded about 25 meters in the Istanbul area, which caused panic among the local residents that there might be an earthquake.

Turkey's seismic protection officials, however, stated that the receding of sea water has no seismic basis, and it is related to geological phenomena, Cumhuriyet daily reported.
