Turkish Health Ministry head Fahrettin Koca said Tuesday that 294 people were injured in two earthquakes that struck Hatay province on Monday.

"We have 294 injured as a result of the two earthquakes that occurred tonight in Hatay," Koca wrote on Twitter. "The condition of 18 of them is unfortunately serious."

On Monday, Turkey's Emergency Management Authority reported two magnitude 6.4 and 5.8 earthquakes 17 minutes apart in the southeast of the country. Earthquakes were also felt in Egypt, Israel, Cyprus, Lebanon and Syria.
