German police have arrested a man who took hostages in a pharmacy in Karlsruhe city.

"At 21:10, the special forces entered the pharmacy. The male suspect was arrested. The building is currently being searched. According to preliminary information, there are no victims," the police said in a statement.

Earlier, the police had cordoned off the surroundings of the aforesaid pharmacy.

The media had reported that the hostage taker demanded millions of euros in exchange for the release of the hostages.
