Budapest and Baku have signed a political agreement that the amount of Azerbaijani natural gas being supplied to Hungary will increase in the future, reaching about 1 billion cubic meters, and Hungary will buy 100 million cubic meters in the last quarter of 2023, announced Peter Szijjarto Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary.

"We have been collaborating with Azerbaijan for a long time, more than a decade. Now a contract has been signed according to which we will buy 100 million cubic meters of [natural] gas from Azerbaijan in the fourth quarter of this year. However, a clear political agreement was also signed, that it will increase to one billion cubic meters of [natural] gas in the next period of the contract," Szijjarto said in a video message that was broadcast on the social media.

According to him, Hungary has signed as well an agreement with Azerbaijan on the storage of 50 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani natural gas in its warehouses, and the supply has already started.

Hungarian official recalled that in the last decade, Budapest was often criticized by Brussels for its "openness to the East" policy, whereas today "with no exaggeration, the entire leadership of the European Union constantly visits Baku, and any leader of the European Union would give a lot in many cases to have a photo with the president of Azerbaijan."
