The US administration claims that a recent publication in the Bild newspaper about pressure from the United States and Germany on Ukraine to start peace talks is untrue.

“The article in Bild was interesting. But no. America does not have a policy… We have always said that Ukraine should decide this. We can’t decide anything about Ukraine without Ukraine,” US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O'Brien said. He was speaking at a special telephone briefing for journalists on US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken's trip to Europe this week.

"And I think the other reality here is that we see no indication that Russia is willing to consider meaningful, genuine peace talks," O'Brien said.
