I believe we should think in that direction, but I don't want to rush it. Speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, stated this in a briefing with reporters in the NA Thursday—and referring to the remark that the Armenian authorities say that Armenia is ready even to submitting an EU membership candidate application.

And to the question as to why then Armenia constantly denies that its foreign political vector is changing, Simonyan answered. "Because I don't want to rush. Secondly, I don't want it to turn out that some unilateral step is being taken. Our [i.e. Armenia’s] actions show that we have much higher indicators of democracy than many of our partner countries which are even EU members. This is what our EU partners say in their resolutions. I believe that we should think in that direction. But again, I don't want to rush, take a step because it is not good to make drastic moves in the case of a state."
