According to a research by Jelle Bruineberg, professor of philosophy at the University of Copenhagen (Denmark), smartphone addiction may stem from the human brain’s desire to quickly acquire new information.

The respective research results were published in the journal Neuroscience of Consciousness

As per Bruineberg, the desire for innovation is the basis of the functioning of the human brain. You can quickly get new information using gadgets. The expert explained that the data on the internet is very dynamic, unlike in books.

Working in conditions of constant novelty, when there is a need to switch attention between tasks, is not suitable for the human brain, as it leads to overload. At the same time, some people perceive this pastime as a holiday, as it becomes more difficult to obtain information from other sources.

Mental workload can be reduced by limiting intake and slowing down the processing of various ingredients, Bruineberg said. At the same time, you should not unnecessarily visit various websites and other internet platforms—as such actions are distractions that have no effect on work and entertainment.
