PARIS. – French Senator, Socialist Philippe Kaltenbach returned bill criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial to the Senate agenda on Monday, head of European Armenian Federation for Justice and Democracy Hilda Tchoboian told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“It is too early to say whether it will be accepted. However, it is a positive step. We should hope that party administration and presidential candidate for upcoming elections [Francois Hollande] will manage to adopt it quickly before the elections,” Tchoboian said.

In response whether Kaltenbach may have come to an agreement with the Socialists on the bill adoption, Tchoboian said that it is a difficult process.

“Kaltenbach as a Senator proposed the bill. However, we should follow what the social group’s next step will be. Taking into account the time period, we hope that the group will be united and will vote unanimously. Armenian organizations are also full of hope that the Socialists will vote for the bill, while they are majority in the Senate,” she said dismissing the reports that Kaltenbach is of Armenian descent.

The French Senate rejected adoption of the bill on May 4 this year.
