Telegram's popularity has increased in several countries, including France and the United States, after the arrest of Pavel Durov, the founder of this messenger, in France, TechCrunch reports.

In France, Telegram rose to the first place in the Social Media category for the number of downloads of apps for the iOS App Store and became the third in the ranking of apps.

Telegram became the second most downloaded app in the US App Store social media platforms, and the number of downloads of this messenger on iOS increased by 4 percent worldwide.

Pavel Durov was detained at Paris-Le Bourget Airport on August 24. The next day, his detention was extended by 96 hours. The Paris prosecutor's office accuses him of complicity in drug trafficking, crimes against children, and fraud.
