YEREVAN. – Zhoghovurd daily has learned that the matter of accountability of officials in the Republic of Armenia (RA) has begun to be seriously discussed within government circles, and this was noted even in official releases, reported the newspaper.

“In particular, on October 19, the government’s plenipotentiary representative to the European Court [of Human Rights (ECtHR)], RA former Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanyan, met with Philippe Boillat, Director General of the Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law of the Council of Europe [(CoE)].

“According to the release, among other matters, Kostanyan and Boillat discussed also the matter of accountability—including material accountability—of officials, including judges.

“[Accordingly,] police, investigators, prosecutors, municipality, [and] cadastre workers [in Armenia] shall be held accountable for the decisions they take,” wrote Zhoghovurd.
