YEREVAN. – The EU-Armenia cooperation was never on such high level, Armenia’s National Assembly Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov told Armenian News-NEWS.am, reflecting on the fact that the European Parliament on Wednesday adopted a resolution on the Armenia-EU Association Agreement.

“The European Parliament is adopting such report on Armenia for the first time,” Sharmazanov said and specified the three following points in the resolution:

“1) The Resolution recognizes Armenia’s European aspirations and highly evaluates Armenia’s ambitious reform agenda. The more intensive Armenia’s democratic reforms become, the EU assistance to Armenia will increase that much more.

2) The Resolution reflects on the Nagorno-Karabakh (NK) conflict, where it is noted that the matter’s peaceful settlement has no alternative. The European Parliament Resolution specifies for the first time the Nagorno-Karabakh people’s right to decide the NK’s final status. The Resolution also calls upon to launch confidence-building measures at the line of contact.

3) The Resolution reflects on the Armenian-Turkish relations. It underscores the opening of the borders without any preconditions, stresses that the continuous existence of a closed border is unacceptable between those countries that aspire for EU membership, and calls for an end to this situation.”
