Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations on Karabakh peace process will launch today in Moscow. Afterwards, the Armenian, Azerbaijani and Russian Presidents — Serzh Sargsyan, Ilham Aliyev and Dmitry Medvedev, will hold the negotiations closing meeting on July 18.

Since his presidency, it is his 6th meeting of Serzh Sargsyan with Ilham Aliyev, and 3rd with Dmitry Medvedev.

Today’s presidential meeting is perceived in Yerevan as an opportunity to bring the positions of the parties closer. “This is the 6th meeting. They should be regarded as a process. Undoubtedly, each meeting has though insignificant, but a result, that enables further meetings’ prospects,” RA Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan declared.

President Sargsyan said that no documents will be signed with Azerbaijani Presidsent Aliyev in the course of Moscow meeting. The same was confirmed by Foreign Affairs Adviser of RF President Sergei Prikhodko. “Russia considers that Nagorno-karabakh conflict settlement is possible in nearest future. Rapprochment of the two sides’ positions is crucial,” Prikhodko added.

At the 2008 Meindorf trilateral meeting, Sargsyan, Aliyev and Medvedev signed a Declaration on peaceful settlement of Nagorno-Karabkh conflict. “International legal norms and principles on aspects and stages of the peacefull settlement should be ensured,” the document reads.

The sides confirmed they are ready to “favour revival of the situation in South Caucasus, and based on principles of the international law, to politically settle Nagorno-Karabakh conflict restoring stability and safety in the region.” The Meindorf declaration confirms Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents’ commitment to settle the conflict. Foreign Ministers of the two countries have been assigned to “promoe further steps in the talks in cooperation with OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmen.”
