YEREVAN. – The Armenian-French relations are very important for Armenia, ruling Republican Party MP Karine Achemyan said during a press conference on Friday.

In her words, President Serzh Sargsyan’s visit to France was important because he met not solely with his French counterpart, but, also, with that country’s PM and National Assembly Speaker. “And in Lyon, the President met with the Armenian community. Overall, the visit was important both in terms of economic and cultural aspects,” Achemyan added.

“In terms of France’s recognition of the [Armenian] Genocide, it will be much better for us if the [French-] Armenian community and our diplomats work very well and form good relations, since promises no longer satisfy us,” Karine Achemyan.

In response to the query as to why the two presidents did not discuss the French bill on criminalizing genocide denial, the MP said relations with the newly elected president of France are at the formation phase and this was the first meeting between the two leaders.
