YEREVAN. – Armenia cannot be lively without an access to the sea, and that is why a closer cooperation is needed with the Kurds, Modus Vivendi Center Director, political scientist Ara Papyan said during a press conference on Friday.

“The close cooperation with the Kurds should be founded on fundamental mutual usefulness. We need to convince the Kurds that they likewise need to cooperate with the Armenians,” he noted.

In Papyan’s words, if Armenia were to propose to the Kurds a joint governance of the territory, the Armenians would be able to create something like the European Union with the Kurds. And in the case of creating an Armenian-Kurdish dwelling area, the Armenians would be able to bring forth their right to get their historical territories back.

The political analyst added that the Kurds understand very well that they need the Armenians for the protection of their own rights.

“It should be well understood that the Kurdish factor could be a restraining circumstance. But this does not mean that creating a Kurdish state will be sensible. Armenia should become a balancing link between the Turks and the Kurds,” Ara Papyan stressed.
