Syrian state news agency SANA reported that Armenians of Syria celebrated Christmas on January 6 according to the calendar of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

“In Damascus, the Armenian Church of St. Sarkis held vigil led by Archbishop Armas Nalbandian. He spoke about the importance of this holiday - the birth of Jesus Christ, the prophet of love and peace - stressing that Syria is the heart of the Arabs and the cradle of all heavenly religions. Syria is distinguished by strong national unity, rooted deep in history.

He said that this year, Syria celebrates Christmas at a time when the country and the region are in alarming situation and encouraged to turn to God and ask him to save the people, who love the peace and life, and put some senses into those who have been misled and point their weapons against their brothers. Archbishop stressed the importance of national dialogue to resolve the crisis in Syria. He turned to God in prayer for the repose of the souls of the fallen for their country, who have defended the unity and territorial integrity. In all the provinces of Syria Christmas worships were held, during which religious leaders of the Armenian Church congratulated believers on Christmas, and expressed the hope that Syria will win,” the report of the official Syrian agency stated.
