An avalanche struck Upper Lars checkpoint on the Georgian-Russian border.

According to Georgia’s Interior Ministry, none of the policemen working at a checkpoint were affected, as they were evacuated in time.

An avalanche came down in Truso Gorge, where the checkpoint is situated. Policemen cannot approach the destroyed checkpoint due to continuing avalanches, Gruziya Online reported.

The checkpoint has been closed for traffic for several days.

Upper Lars checkpoint is the only Armenia’s overland commercial rout to Russia.
