It is quite cold these days in Armenia’s Gyumri city, as the temperatures drop all the way to -20 degrees Celsius in the evening and night hours, and this makes life unbearable especially for families that live in shacks.  

And since purchasing firewood is virtually impossible for the unemployed homeless families, they burn any item they find for some heat.  

That’s why in the winter months the Shirak Center provides on a regular basis—and primarily with the financial support by the Armenians living abroad—firewood to homeless families. One such event was held Saturday, during which dozens of families received firewood that was purchased with the amount that was sent by Australian Armenian Aram Mikaelian.
