YEREVAN.- During this month, Armenian activist, political prisoner Vahagn Chakhalyan will be released due to an amnesty, the president of Javakhk union, Armenian MP Shirak Torosyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am about this.

He noted that the reports about Chakhalyan’s release are a result of misunderstanding. In fact, according to him, Chakhalyan was included in the list of the prisoners, but then his name was removed.

“Georgian authorities decided to release him due to amnesty, not as a political prisoner. The issue is being resolved,” he said.

Armen Gevorgyan and Ruben Shekoyan have already been released under amnesty adopted by the Georgian parliament. They both were activists of the Armenian community of Ajara and were arrested in October 2010 and sentenced to 11 years in jail without sufficient grounds.
