YEREVAN. – If competition problems are revealed in Armenia’s aviation sector, the guilty party will be held accountable regardless of whether or not they are residents of the country. Chairman Artak Shaboyan of the Armenian State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition (ASCPEC) told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

In his words, the foreign companies that conduct activities in Armenia are obligated to observe the requirements of the country’s laws.

“If problems arise while the accountability is applied, we will collaborate with our colleagues in the respective country,” Shaboyan stated.

The ASCPEC chief also noted that the commission is conducting a study on competition problems in the aviation sector, and the results will be submitted to the Government of Armenia in about one month.

As for the recent hikes in the prices of airplane tickets being purchased for flights to and from Armenia, Artak Shaboyan said they are collaborating with the Government-Affiliated General Department of Civil Aviation and, according to the latter’s information, the ticket prices have returned to the level prior to when Armavia Airline Company—which is Armenia’s national carrier—had stopped its operations on April 1.
