YEREVAN. – The Turkish authorities’ repairing of the railway that stretches to Armenia and similar such moves are insignificant in terms of registering progress in the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations.

Armenian Center for National and International Studies analyst Saro Saroyan told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

In his words, the likelihood of the opening of the border between Armenia and Turkey is very small.

“The Armenian body politic’s perceptions, with respect to US pressure on Turkey, are exaggerated. If the attempts to convince [official] Ankara did not play a substantial role in the past, there can be no talk of any pressure today,” Saroyan said.

As per the analyst, the potential US pressure on Turkey needs to be observed in the context of the interests of the American state.

“A new situation needs to be created so that Turkey likewise would make some concessions. [But] such new situation is not formed at this time,” Saroyan maintained.

He added, however, that Turkey will agree to the demands, which the European and the American parties put forward, in the case of certain processes in the Middle East.
