London hosted Trooping the Colour ceremony in honour of the Queen’s official birthday. The annual parade involved over 1,000 guards.

The 87-year-old Queen was accompanied by her cousin Prince Edward, Duke of Kent. Her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, missed the event as he is still in hospital recovering from surgery.

Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince Harry also attended the parade.

Queen Elizabeth II was born on April 21, 1926. She accessed the British throne in 1952 when she was only 25. The official birthday of the Queen is celebrated on a selected day in June depending on weather.
