YEREVAN. – Hrachya Harutyunyan, 46—the Armenian citizen driver who was involved in the fatal bus crash outside Moscow—is transferred from the investigation prison hospital to prison, his relatives said during a press conference on Wednesday.

They also informed that they could not transfer clothing to him on Wednesday morning either, albeit they were promised on Tuesday that they would be able to do this the next day.

Hrachya’s daughter, Lilit, noted that his father is a driver for over twenty years, he is a good father, a professional in his job; he had voluntarily participated in the Karabakh war, and gone to Moscow three months ago for work.

Also, Lilit condoled with the families of the victims of the bus crash.

“My father needs a psychologist. A person who has defended his homeland cannot kill eighteen people and live with that. I ask that whatever happens, let it be fair,” Lilit Harutyunyan said. She added that, apparently, the cause of the accident was a problem in the brakes.

Hrachya Harutyunyan’s relatives also stressed that, by turning the truck over and putting his own life in jeopardy, he had tried to save the lives of others, and he had flew out of the truck by the power of inertia.

In his turn, Harutyunyan’s nephew stated that it has never been seen when one behaves in a similar manner with a suspect, in the case when the latter is not a criminal, but rather a witness to and a participant in an unfortunate incident.

Hrachya Harutyunyan’s relatives also emphasize that if he is to serve a prison sentence, he should serve it in Armenia.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, a truck crashed into a passenger bus on July 13 outside Moscow, and it was found out that the truck driver was an Armenian citizen by the name of Hrachya Harutyunyan. The impact of the crash was so powerful that the bus had split in two. The accident claimed 18 lives and about 50 others were hospitalized. The court had Harutyunyan arrested on Monday. To note, he was brought to the courtroom with slippers and a women’s robe.
