Moscow and Yerevan are concerned about attempts to speculate on the Podolsk tragedy in order to incite sentiments contrary to the spirit of the Russian-Armenian friendship.

This is stated in the statement of Russian MFA press service after a meeting between State Secretary, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Grigory Karasin and Armenian Ambassador to Russia Oleg Yesayan.

During the meeting, the sides discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, cooperation between the foreign ministries. One of the issues on the agenda was a recent car accident in Moscow involving the citizen of Armenia.

“Oleg Yesayan expressed his sincere condolences on what happened. On the Russian side, it was confirmed that full impartial investigation will be conducted with the respect towards the legitimate rights of the defendant. The sides expressed mutual concern about unworthy attempts to speculate on this tragedy to inflame sentiments contrary to the spirit of the Russian-Armenian friendship,” the statement reads.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, a truck crashed into a passenger bus on July 13 outside Moscow, and it was found out that the truck driver was an Armenian citizen by the name of Hrachya Harutyunyan. The impact of the crash was so powerful that the bus had split in two. The accident claimed 18 lives and about 50 others were hospitalized. The court had Harutyunyan arrested on Monday. To note, he was brought to the courtroom with slippers and a women’s robe. This fact caused widespread discontent among the Armenian public, and protests were staged across the Russian Embassy in Armenia.
