YEREVAN. – The opposition Heritage party member said Customs Union, unlike Association Agreement with the EU, will reduce the level of Armenia’s sovereignty.

“If Armenia signs a treaty to join the Customs Union, Association Agreement will not be initialed. This was mentioned by EU representatives, in particular Lithuanian FM,” Armen Martirosyan said.

The process of harmonization of standards and legislation with the EU, that Armenia has been engaged in for several years, will stop.

Armen Martirosyan believes the Association Agreement would be preferable for Armenia in a broader context.

“Armenia’s voice would be more audible in the European structures, and the country would not have had problems associated with the loss of sovereignty,” he said, explaining why he is supporting the European integration.

Heritage party member recalled that both Premier Tigran Sargsyan and Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan mentioned the problems of sovereignty in a scenario of the Customs Union.
