YEREVAN. – Armenia continues holding talks on Iran and Abkhazia railways, Secretary of the National Security Council Arthur Baghdasaryan told reporters on Friday.

He said the talks are a part of events carried out within the framework of the concept on Armenia’s transportation security for 2014-17.

The matter is not only opening of the Abkhazian railway, but large investments in Armenia’s railway. The negotiations and practical steps on construction of Iran-Armenia railway continue. The Iranian side has expressed readiness to fund its part of the railway. As to the section heading to the Iranian border, work is being carried out to attract possible investors.  Iranian, Russian and Chinese companies are showing interest in the deal.

“Iranian side is ready to provide a part of funds for railway in the territory of Armenia,” Baghdasaryan said.

Armenia, Georgian and Russian sides as well as Abkhazia are interested in opening of Abkhazia railway.

The Russian company managing Armenia’s railways expressed readiness to make large investments, and the decision will be made public soon.
