YEREVAN. – The European Union (EU) assistance, in terms of continuing the education reforms in Armenia, is very important.   

Education and Science Minister Armen Ashotyan noted the aforesaid Saturday during his talk with Androulla Vassiliou, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth.

“Armenia has implemented numerous EU-assisted projects in the domains of education and teaching,” Ashotyan noted. 

Stating that the EU-Armenia educational cooperation has been effective, in turn Vassiliou expressed a view that the political processes should not have an impact on cooperation in education.     

“The strengthening and development of educational ties is an important priority for us,” the European Commissioner added.

She also expressed a hope that, owing to its successes and track-record within the Bologna Process, Armenia will be useful for other countries. 

In turn the minister stressed that Armenia, as the country that has assumed the Bologna Process Secretariat, stands ready to  offer advice.

Ashotyan also expressed a view that Armenia considers it a principal matter that all “black spots” be eliminated from the “education map” of Europe.

“Political problems should not become a reason for the suffering of the people’s right to education,” Armen Ashotyan stressed. 

Armenia’s Education and Science Minister and the European Commissioner also reflected on the future Armenia-EU cooperation in education, the Diaspora-Armenian schools in Europe, and numerous other matters.
