YEREVAN. – Next week the opposition MPs may collect signatures to postpone the introduction of mandatory pension system, Secretary of Prosperous Armenia faction said.

Naira Zohrabyan talked to reports following a meeting of opposition factions in the parliament. She argued that the introduction of new pension system will affect many citizens, and this is the reason for public concerns. Thus, the MP did not rule out that signature campaign will be launched to hold a new extraordinary session of the National Assembly.

“Introduction of a new system is a direct way to youth migration. Meanwhile, PM believes the system is a genius idea,” Zohrabyan told reporters.

Secretary of the opposition Armenian National Congress Aram Manukyan noted that by signing the statement of four opposition groups they joined protest actions organized by an initiative group created on Facebook.

The head of Heritage parliamentary faction Zaruhi Postanjyan noted that the statement indicated discontent with the behavior of the parliamentary majority, that, in fact, prevented implementation of the rights of the parliamentary minority.

“They are not only cynical, but also are afraid of debates, since the public would be informed that more than 250,000 people will suffer as a result of this system,” she added.

Head of ARF parliamentary group Artsvik Minasyan noted that the ruling party assured that they would take part in the extraordinary meeting. He called it “an attempt to humiliate the parliamentary minority.”
