YEREVAN. – Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Armenia was very productive, and numerous problems are already being solved.

Ruling Republican Party MP Sukias Avetisyan noted the aforesaid at a press conference on Thursday.

Avetisyan added that Armenia’s planned accession to the Russian-led Customs Union assumes the security of the Armenian people and economic activity.

In his words, Armenia also continues to cooperate and deepen its relations with Europe.

In turn, former political prisoner Azat Arshakyan, who is ex-deputy of the Armenian Supreme Council (Parliament), said Armenia has an important geographical position, and therefore there is a battle for it and they are putting resources to protect their interests.

“I believe that Russia won this battle, but it will pay very dearly for that prize, pleasure; and [therefore] it needs to develop and coax our economy.

“On September 3, Russia recaptured Armenia, since it saw that it [i.e., Armenia] is going to Europe. It came and conquered,” Arshakyan added.

To note, following the talks that were held on September 3 in Moscow between Armenian and Russian Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Vladimir Putin, Sargsyan had announced that Armenia plans to join the Customs Union and subsequently engage in the formation of the Eurasian Economic Union. Aside from Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan likewise are members in the Customs Union.
