In the coming months, the Government of France will introduce a new bill that criminalizes the denial of the Armenian Genocide.

The government will bring this proposed law pursuant to the pledge which French President François Hollande had made during his election campaign, Le Monde daily reports.

The respective official announcement may be made during Hollande’s visit to Armenia in May 2014.

This information was confirmed on Monday, at the Élysée Palace, at the end of the talk with representatives of the Coordination Council of Armenian Organizations in France.

This schedule will enable the bill to be passed in April 2015; that is, during the centennial commemoration events of the Armenian Genocide.

To note, in December 2011, the French National Assembly passed a bill that criminalizes the denial of genocides, including the Armenian Genocide. But in February 2012, the French Constitutional Council declared this bill null and void.
