No one can impede Armenia from conducting trade with Nagorno-Karabakh, and no one can curtail Armenia’s prospects in this matter, Russian political analyst Mikhail Aleksandrov told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Aleksandrov commented on Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s recent statement on the Karabakh factor in Armenia’s future accession to the Russian-led Customs Union.

In the analyst’s words, Kazakhstan has invested major resources in Azerbaijan.

“They are oil partners, and therefore Kazakhstan is interested so that normal relations are maintained with Azerbaijan,” Aleksandrov noted.

But the analyst added that Nazarbayev will not hinder Armenia's accession to the Customs Union.

As per Aleksandrov, the Kazakh president just aims to eliminate Azerbaijan’s concern that Nagorno-Karabakh could be included in the boundaries of the customs zone.

“No one has suggested such a thing. Therefore, we are creating a stir in vain,” he stated.

The Russian analyst stressed that Nazarbayev is making political statements to please the Turkish and the Azerbaijani leaders. But, according to Mikhail Aleksandrov, these statements will not have significant results, and no one will get in the way of Armenia’s accession to the Customs Union.

Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev on Tuesday stated that Kazakhstan stands ready to sign the “road map” on Armenia’s accession to the Russian-led Customs Union, but with a special position: it asks for a clarification on the matter of the borders of the Customs Union, in connection with the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.
