YEREVAN. – Azerbaijani authorities are trying to make a new show of a human tragedy. This time the main hero is an old man, a native of Tavush Region of Armenia, Mamikon Khojoyan who appeared on Azerbaijani side.
Azerbaijani side as usual is trying to delay the visit of Red Cross representatives on different pretexts. However, they arranged a visit of ANS television journalists instead.
An article posted by haqqin.az website titled “Armenian saboteur gives his first interview in Baku” says Mamikon Khojoyan gave an interview to ANS television. He allegedly said that feels ok and is pleased with conditions.
“Answering reporter’s questions, Khojoyan made contradicting statements. The man says he is working for Armenian special services and at the same time claims he is a winemaker,” the article reads. The captive claims he has two big orchards and two cars. According to the source, he is undergoing treatment in Azerbaijani hospital.
An old man who has mental disorder appeared on Azerbaijani side on Thursday.
Thus, Azerbaijani side once again proved disregard toward the provisions of the International Humanitarian Law and human rights by forcing an ill man to give an interview, while ICRC representatives have not been provided access to the captive for the third day in a row.
The reporters were forced to admit that Khojyan made contradicting statements, at the same time introducing him as “an agent of special services”. It seems that the reporters have not lost remnants of conscience that did not allow to call the old man “a saboteur”. We have witnessed the tragic example of shepherd Manvel Saribekyan who was presented as a “saboteur” and was tortured in Azerbaijani prisons. Saribekyan used to give an interview to the same ANS television that is also famous for a show made in connection with captivity of Hakob Injighulyan.
And finally, it should be noted that “independent” ANS television has close ties with the government. Loyal channel has recently handed over an award to president Ilham Aliyev declared Aliyev Jr. “A Man of the Year”
