President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan on Saturday attended the official reopening of Abovyan Medical Center, and subsequently toured the city’s fully renovated hospital, which has been provided with modern equipment.

Abovyan Medical Center Acting Director Victoria Mikayelyan told reporters that the hospital was built in 1980, but it had not been fully renovated ever since. In her words, this is the Armenian Health Ministry’s and the World Bank’s (WB) gift to the hospital.

In turn, Health Minister Derenik Dumanyan informed that the renovations at the medical center had begun under the direct instruction of President Sargsyan. According to the minister, a 3,500-square-meter area has been renovated.

An investment totaling about 846.8 million drams—211.7 million drams from the Government of Armenia and 635.1 million drams from the WB credits—was made for the renovation of Abovyan Medical Center.

In line with the current exchange rate, USD 1 is equivalent to approximately AMD 408.
